This model includes RAID support. so one could buy a pair and using RAID get performance simular to the latest/faster drives but for a few dollars less.
The closest I could find describing what chipset it used is a form posting saying it was a “Phison” but I wouldn’t call it an authoritative source.
The reviews on Newegg are very mixed, so YMMV with this drive. The early reviews felt it was great and then later the reviews become more negative.
Not clear if it is quality control issues or user error after the more tech savvy early adopters used it, leaving the people who need extra assistance to leave reviews.
Still, if someone has a super tight budget this could be a good deal.
